In the Fall of 1988, several freshmen organized a Freshman Choir at Cunningham Hall of Oakwood College in Huntsville, Alabama to participate in the college’s annual Freshman concert. Among the organizers were Johnny Ramsey, Gerald Morgan, Brian Clifton, Michael Darville, Patrick and Paul Graham, Bobby Anderson, Robert Bell, and Owen Simons to name a few. Taking the position as the first director was Owen Simons of Bermuda. Due to the large success of the choir, it became necessary to develop a name for the choir that would make an impact. At the end of the school year, the freshman choir changed its name to “Rejoice”. However, after much deliberation, the name “Dynamic Praise” was decided upon during the fall of 1989.

In the Spring semester of 1996, upon his departure from the U.S., Owen handed leadership of the choir over to the capable hands of Andrew Young, affectionately known as “Benji”. Under his direction, the choir traveled to 40 of the 50 United States and into countries such as Bermuda, Jamaica, London, and Canada. The choir has shared the stage with artist such as Richard Smallwood, Kirk Franklin, Yolanda Adams, Donnie McClurkin, CeCe Winans, Dottie Peoples, Byron Cage, Lamar Campbell, and Kelly Price to name a few. The choir also has alumnus roster consisting of such artist as Take 6, Virtue, Sean Simmonds, Duawne Starling, and members of the recently winners of NBC’s Sing-Off, Committed. In the Spring of 2011, after 13 years of unwavering commitment, Benji passed the torch of directorship.

Currently the choir stands under the God-fearing direction of Stephen Manders of Bermuda and Bruce Bean of Nashville, TN. Dynamic Praise has been and continues to be under the watch and care of God. It looks to continue doing its part as a ministry to build God’s Kingdom and aid in preparing the world for His soon return.
